TakeOver: E-Reality?

An educational Primary School tour

Hannah worked with a group of 5 actors to devise a 20 minute performance to tour to local primary schools in York. This performance was complimented by a an hour long workshop that delved into the performance and brought attention to issues relating to our environment and social media. Hannah arranged the production elements & logistics of the tour, corresponding with the schools and staff.

The Show

The performance begins with a 3 minute vlog about Ellie getting ready to go to school. The comedic performance then shows Ellie going about her daily routine under her fathers new ‘Eco-Day’ work scheme. As we watch Ellie getting ready and going to school, we notice how her actions contradict her vlog. This performance contained multiple movement sequences.

The Workshop

The workshop was designed to compliment the Schools performance and encourage participants to reflect on the idea of an ‘EcoDay’. It opened a conversation about the environment and how small changes can have a big impact. Moreover, it aimed to highlight the falsities around the environment and social media.

The Workshop included activities, drama games, group discussions and revisiting ‘E Reality?’. We looks into themes and the false truths that are brought up in the performance both in relation to the environment and social media

Reviews

“We all enjoyed the workshop thanks. We thought the show was excellent, it really 'spoke' to the children at their level without being patronising. The workshops were good. It was nice to see you doing a range of different things and keeping the children moving and engaged… All of your performers engaged well with the children and we thought it was a great idea. Thank you for coming, all the best with the festival. ”

“The children (and teachers) really enjoyed Friday's workshop and performance. I thought it was a brilliant way to address global warming and environmental issues alongside social media. The performance was excellent; the actors were really engaging. The workshop was varied and interesting - I think the balance of information and creativity was perfect. I particularly liked the expectation/reality comparison - this is something we cover in school so it is good that you reinforced that message so clearly.”
